There are so many of us who have dreams to live a “big” life but one of the reasons many of us put those dreams on hold is because we don’t know what job or business idea will be the one to get us on the road achieve these financial goals. We are told to follow our passion, but how do we do that when we don’t even know what our passion is?
I know many people who think of multiple business ideas, practically every week, and are excited by the thought that “this is the one”, only until the next month rolls around and a new business makes its way into their mind before they have even had a chance to work on the previous one. This cycle continues and they never end up acting on any of the ideas they have had, or perhaps they started but then got distracted. Unfortunately, continuing not to act or complete tasks or goals like this leaves them with a lower self-esteem as they repeatedly do not keep promises to themself. Sometimes you just need to do the thing because you said you would!
There is a point when we need to make a decision and take action, and commit to it without getting distracted by other good ideas. A quote that seems fitting here is from Bruce-Lee , who said: “The successful warrior is the average man with laser-like focus” . You may have many good ideas, but you need to learn how to focus on the best one.
I believe that if you take a couple of minutes to work through what I am about to share below, you will discover how to achieve your dreams when you don’t know what you want.
I have combined snippets of information that I have learned from multiple books I’ve read, podcasts I’ve listened to, courses I have taken part in and most importantly, experiences through my own personal journey to bring you a ‘game plan’ to figure out how to achieve your dreams when you don’t know what you want. This strategy has helped me tremendously and I hope it does the same for you, so let’s dive in!
Step 1: Instead of wondering about what specific job or business you want to pursue exactly, take some time to write down the income and lifestyle you desire. Grab a pen and paper and really focus on the results this entrepreneurial venture/career will bring you.
For example:
1. I work from home/anywhere in the world
2. I only work for 2-3 hours per day
3. I earn over $10 000 per month
5. I live in a new build, 5-bedroom home with a large vegetable garden
6. I work for myself/lead a team
7. I wake up full of energy and vitality every morning… etc.
Step 2: Stick this piece of paper on your bathroom mirror or inside the door of your wardrobe (wherever you will see it every day) and become emotionally and physically engaged in what you are reading.
I cannot emphasize enough how important it is for you to really feel these feelings and emotions as you read about and visualize your future. If this sounds a bit “woo-woo” or new to you, I highly recommend you reading the book “Becoming Supernatural” by Dr. Joe Dispenza. Using science-backed research, Dr. Dispenza explains how every thought and emotion you have sends or attracts an electro-magnetic frequency, which can be measured.
Visualization can take some practice and some people can even struggle to visualise their child’s face when their eyes are closed, so if this sounds like you, don’t worry! Feeling the emotions of abundance, wealth, and gratitude (to name a few) is the key to getting your brain to look for opportunities in your environment that are aligned with your dreams and aspirations.
Step 3: To think of new ideas, you need to expose your brain to new things.
Read new books, travel to a new town, walk a different route, join a new group of people or club to encourage different conversations, watch an interesting documentary, change up your routine, try new foods, listen to new podcasts and find new hobbies or ways to relax that is not mindless (such as painting or baking).
Step 4: Ask yourself the question: “If money was not a worry and you knew you would make millions doing whatever business you chose to do, what business would you start?”
I knew of this question for many years but always answered realistically. One day, I was honest with myself and here we are, pursuing exactly what I have ALWAYS loved, which is personal development and self-improvement!
Step 5: Actually do this work! Every. Single. Day.
Be an example to yourself (and others) that you can show up and that you are the type of person who acts. If you take action every day, you will find your whole identity change as you become the type of person who does the things they say they will. I know you can do it, and you will be surprised at how quickly things can change – it really doesn’t take as long as you think.
You must believe that the specific business idea (or whatever you are looking for) will find its way to you. I had many business ideas amidst the busyness of life but when you are focused, meditating, and positively finding your purpose and passion, and a wave of inspiration comes your way during this time of introspection – take it more seriously than you ever have when compared to previous business ideas.

If you would like to dive even deeper into this work, I would recommend you read “Becoming Supernatural” by Dr. Joe Dispenza (or any of his other books) and have a look into one of the transformational programs by Neurogym.
